Webinar on Disinformation
The webinar, Disinformation in Times of Crisis, is part of a series of EPAG-initiated webinars related to the Ukraine war.The webinar speakers will be Professor Roberto Gelado Marcos and Professor Mariam Gersamia.
Roberto Gelado Marcos will make a general introduction to disinformation. Briefly reviews its development from the past to the present and in this regard, outlines the main actors and vulnerable groups.
Mariam Gersamia will talk about the structure of disinformation and how pseudo-reality is created through the media, why we remember one particular piece of information and images more than others; As well as how disinformation affects the human brain, emotions and health. Finally, how to increase our stress resistance in information warfare, especially in crisis and war communications.
Roberto Gelado Marcos, Vice-Rector of International Affairs, University of San Pablo. Roberto Gelado holds a PhD in Communication and Strategic Management, MA in Gobal Media, and in Journalism and Translating and Interpreting. In 2019 he was the principal investigator of a Facebook-funded project on the study of the impact of disinformation on vulnerable sectors of the population, and since 2021 he is the PI of the USPCEU node in IBERIFIER, one of the 8 hubs funded by the European Commission through the 2020 CEF Telecom Call (EDMO). He has completed research and teaching stays at Cambridge University, Westminster University, Columbia University, Freie Universität’s and Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul.
Mariam Gersamia is a full professor, media psychologist at Tbilisi State University and currently teaches an English-language master’s program in Media Psychology and Communications at TSU. She is also the Chair of the Media and Communication Education and Research Center (MCERC). Mariam has 21 years of teaching experience and is the author of numerous scientific papers and authoring courses. From 2021 publishes academic blogs on media psychology on the platform of “Forbes Georgia”.
