Statement of U.S. Government Exchange Program Alumni Association of Georgia on the draft laws “on Transparency of Foreign Influence”
U.S. Government Exchange Program Alumni Association of Georgia condemns the draft laws “on Transparency of Foreign Influence” which undermine democratic development and Euro-Atlantic aspirations of the country.
First and foremost, the draft laws encourage stigmatization and diminish the role of media, particular groups of public and civil society organizations in the process of state building, as the work of these organizations, which is essential to the country, is usually financed either by a foreign country or international organizations.
Besides, the draft laws question the efforts of our strategic partners and supporters toward the progress of our state.
We believe that all existing resources have to be directed toward Georgia’s EU integration, toward the aim which is enshrined in the state constitution and supported by the majority of Georgian people.
